How does an unvented sump not trap air?
How about shutting off the manifold vents to the tanks?  The tank overflow lines will
provide tank venting, when needed, and maintain the tank pressure above the sump vent
pressure during flight.  A float type check valve in the sump vent line will allow any
air to escape while preventing fuel being forced out the vent.
