The reason it's "deep" is because it's a hole that's hard to get out of. =
It's a stable regime that is marginally recoverable at best. However, =
riding it to the ground has not been uniformly fatal, unlike the typical =
"approach to final" stall in conventional aircraft.

I think most folks in the canard community regard the stalling of the =
main wings a "deep stall". The definition would apply to both of the =
situations you describe.
