But alas, as is being discussed on Bob Nuckol's Aero-Electric list right =
now, the cell phone towers seem to be oriented to maximize transmissions =
horizontally and not toward airplanes in the sky. Next time you're =
flying, see if your cell phone can lock on and get a signal.
I do believe there will be some good and lower cost (lower than $50 per =
month) solutions coming soon that can be used in the cockpit while =
you're trying to snake around the towering thunder heads! A good way to =
do this by the way, is get on top of the haze layer, where visibility =
often improves to 50 - 100 miles and you can see those suckers from a =
lot further away. That's what I did on the way to Oshkosh when there =
were storms in the Ohio Valley. I flew west, keeping the towering stuff =
to my right until they ended at Evansville, then I turned north toward =
Oshkosh. (Monday, July 28).
