Actually, there are a lot more moving parts in a turbo than "1."
All the rollers in the bearings are moving parts and subject to failure. It
is much less likely that the actual boost vane will fail, than a bearing or
seal, or wastegate. The extra heat involved in the turbo installation also
increases heat near other parts and therefor increases their "possible"
failure rate.
Don't get me wrong.. I think turbos are great... just keep all the little
details in perspective.
