Brian,

When I first started thinking of constructing a Velocity, I did a lot of research. I read some of the good blogs and met the local builders. But it was the Reflector that connected me to the whole Velocity community.

I remember my first post to the Reflector. I was a Freshman in the company of Seniors. I was the new guy asking all the dumb questions and getting great answers. There were lots of good debates on the right answers, but nobody in our community ever made me feel small for asking.

It wasn't just an email list that you started. It was the glue that held our community together. It let us communicate with others who knew what we were talking about. It brought us all closer together.

I think I saw that the Reflector archives go back to 1998. That's nearly 2 decades of service to the Velocity world!

I commend and thank you for what you created. The time and money you spent to set it up. The years of work you put in to keep it running. It didn't just make our community stronger; it made our community.

I'm dedicated to ensuring that this legacy lives on by preserving the archive of messages. We're going to find a way to keep all of this content online for future builders.

Thank you for all you have done. It's been an incredible resource for us all!

Reiff Lorenz

Ever since the VOBA site became active, the Reflector has seen less and less traffic. I think it's time that the Reflector list is retired. I make this decision, because I need to to a site migration, and moving the system to a different server seems pointless. Don't read anything emotional into this. I'm not bitter or attached to the old Reflector.
It's just that all of the networking value is now on the VOBA forum.

I plan to retire the tvbf site in about 60 days. I have backups in mbox format, and will retain those. The server itself will stay up, but access to the old fixed IP will be changing. If anyone needs any files, I will always be able to produce them.

The biggest impact will probably be the Google searches that lead to the TVBF domain, and that's not a very big issue, in my opinion.
