REFLECTOR: Engine Dryer

Recirc from the oil filler tube is a good idea but . . . check to see wether you actually get access to the crank case from the fill tube. On my C150 (Continental 0-200) and Sportsman (Superior IO-400) the end of the oil filler tube extends down into the oil. The IO-400 has cold air induction, so I connect my recirc line to a drain at the bottom of the intake manifold, figuring air will circa thru an open intake valve.

I guess an option on more conventional engines is to connect the recirc line to an exhaust pipe.

BTW, I made an air dryer with recirc for about $70 (most of the cost is the desiccant).

It seems inefficient to me to just pull hot, humid outside air through the dessicant and pump it into the engine. Wouldn’t it be dryer and use less dessicant if I recirculated the air through the dessicant? I could hook the air pump’s output to the dipstick opening and the pump’s inlet to the crankcase breather hose.
