REFLECTOR: [VOBA Forum] Raining in Texas

Speaking of engine dryers, I’m about ready to hook one up to my engine. I bought a Tempest AA1000. It seems inefficient to me to just pull hot, humid outside air through the dessicant and pump it into the engine. Wouldn’t it be dryer and use less dessicant if I recirculated the air through the dessicant? I could hook the air pump’s output to the dipstick opening and the pump’s inlet to the crankcase breather hose.

Well, it looks like I dodged a bullet.

The water came up and kissed the belly of the plane. Juanita relayed the information to me, so I don't have any pictures yet. The front edge of the water was at the middle of the speed brake. The aft edge of the water was about 8" forward of the cowl cut line. The interior appears to be dry.

Strange things:
The electricity was still on. The breaker did not trip. The engine dryer was still running, but did not pump water into the engine, and the dryer canister appears dry. Odd things floated around, so it looks like I lost some equipment, but the important things look okay.

Mike Deeter has the hangar directly behind me. I have a taller XL nosewheel, so he may not have fared as well as me.

  Brian,

I hope the plane interior stayed dry. Please send a report when you can.

A report from a fellow EAA'er says that I got about 3' of water. Hopefully none in the avionics.

  Someone sent me this picture.

My hangar is in the row to the left. It looks like the water came up maybe 18 inches. I will find out tomorrow if I still have an airplane.
