That’s about what I get. 2300 static, 173 kts at 4500 feet wide open, but I don’t remember at what rpm. My nose gear retracts. Prince P-tip 68/78 2-blade. ECI IOX-360 with Plasma III.

Subject: REFLECTOR: Fixed Pitch RPM Std. FG / MT breaking

I ordered and received a Catto after my MT broke apart. Amazingly it took Catto only a few days to get it to me. Apparently there was one already built from them waiting for a buyer! It’s been several years since I ran a fixed (I used to have a Performance Prop). I know the Catto is rated up to 3200 RPM, but what do most pilots run their fixed-pitch props at?

I can get the Catto to 2800 RPM at 7500-8500 FT Wide Open Throttle. At a stand-still on the ground, it’ll get up to maybe 2,350 RPM. Definitely takes longer to get off the ground and getting used to on landing compared to the MT. The speeds are almost the same. I might see 2-3 KTS faster at 2800 RPM 7,500 FT on the Catto versus 2500 RPM WOT on the MT.

The MT was losing the SS rain guards on the prop tips. After about 400 hours, one of the SS rain guards departed the airplane 1/2 way through the length of the blade, leaving a slight vibration. I landed the plane in Rome, GA and got a new Catto with a nickel leading edge. I’m going to get the MT rebuilt, assuming they can assure me this won’t happen again.

This isn’t common; actually the 1st time I’ve heard about it.

My specs are:

Std FGE
IO-360 C1C
MT MTV-18 (newer blade design) Electric prop
Catto Replacement with nickel leading edge

Anyway, I’d like to know the RPM you cruise at and if you’ve had issues with the MT in the past. Thanks!
