Flying without any piece of cowling or panel removed is ill advised. Changes in aerodynamic flow could be disastrous. If someone else has done it, I haven't heard about it.

Would it be ok to test fly around the pattern only without the top cowl installed.   With the armpit scoops feeding into a tops-down plenum arrangement.
