Andy Millin recently posted this to the VOBA Forum. I thought it was important enough to cross post to the Reflector. Andy might not see replies sent back to the Reflector, so be sure to copy him on your reply: amillin at sbcglobal.net<mailto:amillin at sbcglobal.net?subject=re:Billet%20Gear%20Fork>

Subject: [VOBA Forum] Billet Gear Fork
Apologies for the length of the post. If you are interested in the fork, please read the entire post.
The first prototype billet forks are completed. I have one on my plane now and have been flying with it. It is performing well and I am very happy. We cut three prototypes in the first run. One is on its way to John Tvedte and the other to Jorge Bujanda. Jorge is flying and I expect it will be in service soon.
It is still looking like the billet fork will come in around $500. Compare this to the factory cast fork at $350.
I am using the Beringer wheel and axle. The best price was found on Van's site. It is used on the RV-10. This wheel is applicable for the Fixed Gear Velocities only.

One of the challenges with the Fixed Gear was the wheel pant. The axle has always been used as the primary wheel pant attachment point. It is also used for the tow bar. A new method was developed for the pant and tow bar.
A new axle stud was cut from 4140HT TG&P stock. The spacers and thimbles were machined from 6061 aluminum.

The new parts will also be made available at extra cost: Damper Bracket, Axle Stud, Spacers, Tow Bar Thimbles. I expect the accessory package should be available for $100-$150.
The accessories are not required. The wheel and fork can be used with an AN6-74 bolt, castellated nut, washer, and cotter pin.
John, Jeff and Dave are working on the RG CAD design.
We are at the point of computing the real cost and price for the fork. To do this, we need to get a solid count on how many we will be producing.

We are not asking for deposits. I AM asking / LAST CALL -- is there anyone else?
We are not planning on making extra forks for stock.
