REFLECTOR: Fwd: CNX80 Compact Flash

I followed Larry's instructions below and found further detailed
instructions on how to make a back-up (or replacement) Compact Flash NAV
Data card for the CNX80/GNS480. As he says, it was not hard and I was able
to successfully create a substitute NAV Data compact flash card for my
CNX80.

Here's the link (but the detailed instructions found there are also included
as an attachment to this Email):

What I have not found yet, but would still appreciate learning if it's been
done and how to do it is -- bypassing Jeppesen and loading your own NAV data
onto the card!

Thanks all for the help!

Very easy to do.

Join the CNX-80/GNS480 User group on Yahoo, Instructions are posted (or you
can just post the question and it will be answered.)

Do you remember where these projects are, or what they are called?

There are a couple of projects I've seen on the web.

If I was flying real IFR, not sure if I could trust them though. VFR would
seem reasonable. Though for VFR I think I would just mount an Android
tablet and use the Naviator. The subscription is super cheap and you always
have the latest sectionals, approach plate, etc.

With as smart as pilots are, I'm surprised someone hasn't hacked these.
On the other hand, pilots have better things to do with their time.

I would love to be able to update my own database.

Does anyone know if you can buy, format and use your own Compact Flash nav
data cards for the CNX80, or do you have to buy new ones from Garmin?
