Dave Biesemeier, a friend of Rob's, asked me to pass this on. I'm not able to post on some of the bulletin boards and would appreciate it if some of you would post on Cozy Builders, the race group and any other appropriate site. Please send me a copy (jschuber at juno.com) when you do so I may get the address to forward further communication . Thank you.

Our thoughts are with the Martinson family at this devastating time.

Folks,

I am heartsick to have to let you know I, and we, lost a dear friend this morning. All of you are aware that Rob was an avid skier and that we skied together often. Yesterday he was gravely injured in a fall onto the snow (not into trees) in the bowl accessed by the Poma (for those who know Vail). I was not skiing with him at that moment as Michele and I were on another part of the mountain. He was skiing with Pam and two other friends and "bringing up the rear" in exciting but difficult powder and blizzard conditions. When the others got down to the lift he was missing. Ski patrol was called, and we also went over to that lift to begin a search. By the time we got there, that part of the mountain had just closed due to the conditions. In the meantime, another skier found him and began CPR. The ski patrol was there shortly and took over, transporting him to the Vail hospital where we all convened. He was not breathing on his own at that point and was
 later sent by ambulance down to Denver. He died this morning. None of us is sure exactly what happened, but it appears he fell forward with a lot of force and likely lost consciousness, perhaps unable to breathe at that point. We just are not sure; it could have been some other initial cause.

At this point I have no information on services but I will be learning about that and letting you know.

Clearly I don't have all the email addresses I should have. Please forward this on as you wish, but please be sure to CC me when you do so I can compile a complete list of those of us in the aviation community who want to stay informed as things unfold.

In the meantime, Pam's postal mail address is:
Pam Martinson
1298 Starwood Lane
Evergreen CO 80439
<pam at themartinsons.net>

Rob and I skied frequently together and it sometimes felt like skiing was more like flying than flying was. That was the way he skied. I hope that is among the many ways he will be remembered.

Len
