Careful in Canada - NO handguns, long guns only. Read the guidelines on AOPA or NAV-CAnada somewhere.

Agree.
Water, candy, cigarette lighter, back pack, whistle, flashlights, cap, gloves, compass, signal mirror, bug spray, tarp, rope, string(fishing), hooks, warm night clothes, sun screen, knife, firearm and projectiles.
May seem excessive but it what I carry everywhere in the plane. It does not take long to be very alone in a plane. Survival is easy if prepared and unlikely if not.
If I crash and can still walk I want to be found skinny, bearded and smiling. Boy Scout!
I flew 16,000 miles around the boarder of the US several years ago and likewise wished to be prepared. I carried tubes but not tires but would not argue. Many other items could be added like something to cook in but aluminum foil works fine.
My 2 cents.
