I did Santa Fe (6348 feet) in this same Std-RG many years ago with a fixed
pitch Performance 3 blade prop, and I didn't have any real trouble. Now,
with the MT prop, it's easy to think about Pagosa Springs (7664 feet), but
boy, it sure seems mighty high..... I really appreciate all of the input
from all of you.

My horror story takeoff was many years ago in my Continental 0-200
Varieze... at probably 150 lbs over gross... departing Green River, Utah
(4225 feet)... on a hot summer afternoon. We got stuck in ground effect,
and skimmed the tops of the wheat fields for what seemed like a mile after
the end of the runway... no fun at all....

I launched out of Big Bear L35 with an O235 Long EZ solo, half fuel and a
full pancake breakfast aboard. We (flight of 5 Long EZ's) calculated we
were attempting the possible.
It barely was...

I flew a 172XP (180hp) out of KLXV once. Me plus 2 passengers, fuel
to the tabs, we were full throttle and mixture pulled a bit the
entire flight except landing at about half throttle. Went up to 12.5
and was still in the valley! Very cool. Would love to fly my
      standard RG in there sometime.

I am surprised nobody tried KLXV. A few summers ago, I had a
chance to fly a stock Cessna 172 out of there at 9934ft MSL and
cross some passes at 14,000ft to KASE and then back. It took
some planning and morning flight but I was quite surprised that
stock 172 can actually handle that kind of flight.

It is definitely on “the list” for when I get N21HV back in the
            air (Franklin + IVO).

            Dave,

I have a STD/RG with a Franklin 220 HP and an IVO prop. I have
flown out of KANK in Salida, CO (7523') at full gross and 80F
with no problem. The IVO in flight adjustable prop makes a big
            difference.
