REFLECTOR: What's the highest altitude airport you've flown into?

I am surprised nobody tried KLXV. A few summers ago, I had a chance to fly a stock Cessna 172 out of there at 9934ft MSL and cross some passes at 14,000ft to KASE and then back. It took some planning and morning flight but I was quite surprised that stock 172 can actually handle that kind of flight.

It is definitely on "the list" for when I get N21HV back in the air (Franklin + IVO).

Dave,

I have a STD/RG with a Franklin 220 HP and an IVO prop. I have flown out of KANK in Salida, CO (7523') at full gross and 80F with no problem. The IVO in flight adjustable prop makes a big difference.

I'm heading back out west next week in my STD-RG, with it's normally aspirated 200 HP lycoming. One of the places we'll be visiting is Pagosa Springs, Colorado (elevation 7664 feet - yeow!).

I've been into Santa Fe a few times (elevation 6348 feet) with no significant scary departures, but, wow... 7600+ seems mighty high to this flatlander....

So, what's the highest elevation airport you've been into? Please include your aircraft & engine for comparisons....

Thanks!

Dave
