REFLECTOR: Ouch

I bought N34XL in The People's Republic of California, flew it to Texas and (legally) avoided sales tax in both states. First of all as the buyer and citizen of NM I would think any sales tax would be owed to your state of residence. In Texas I had to file a form signed by the seller that this was a one-time deal, that neither he nor I were in the business of flipping aircraft, then say a few prayers and submit the form. I got this info from other aircraft owners who did the same thing after buying out of state. I'd start asking a lot of questions around the airport and even reach out to EAA and AOPA. All my legwork basically saved me 6%. Additionally, CA never really came into the picture, as buyer and resident of Texas, any sales tax would be owed to Austin solely.
Yes I'm still doing the Happy Dance... :)

And although Misty's Son soloed in it a few weeks ago, it can be anemic at our high density altitudes... and with only 12 Gals of fuel... you have to be careful.
