Had a great stay with Panorama Flight Service, thought their gas price was a bit lower. $40-45 car rental, stayed at Doral Country Club for about 150 less per night than in the city - a 10-15 minute drive from Panorama - and the FBO has free beer / coffee / pop for their guest, and gee, they just took real good care of us.  Day after the worst FBO experience ever at Portland ME the day before.

GET the Class B Exclusion Special flight rules chart,, but if you don't, just depart HPN telling tower you want to run the Class B exclusion down the river with Flight Following, they'll turn you over to VERY accomodating LGA approach.  Stay on right side of river / OVER the river (not in Teterboro class D that way) either direction at 1100ft. Stay with LGA & they hold your hand all the way down. IF you go below 1100 ft VFR, your on your own, and [what the chart dont tell ya] the helicopter guys yell and scream at you if you're below 800 anyway - if I did it again, easier/safer to stay at 1100 with FF and piece of mind. Going south, cross the V bridge at 1100 or better. Stay with LGA if you want to go anywhere else around Manhattan, or u want to run back north. If going south - you'll get Newark.

Run it a couple of times if any doubt your co-pilot might not get the best pics of the Statue. Guess how I found that one out. Have fun, easier than it looks.

Regards,

My wife Sue and I are planning to do the Hudson River trip around New York in the next week or so. I have all of the necessary charts but would like to talk to someone who has recently done this route. Also, We will be spending the night in Manhattan so I am looking for a good airport to land for the day. Any suggestions? I don’t have any problems taking the subway or train into the city. Thanks
