REFLECTOR: Email vs forum

Geoff & Brett + All,
I am. not an IT guru, I am a mailing list and forum list user for many years only.
As I understand it, if we go forum we will all need to join the forum -if we want to start a new topic-.
By staying on the mailing list alone and never joining the forum you will get the benefit of all the emails, and can even immediately chime in real time (APP or phone browser) BUT you would miss one of the best features of a forum and that is Opening A New Topic.
This is a foundational feature of forums: if you have an issue, search the forum (that would include in our case many years of archives) and find that this issue has t been adequately addresses then you open a New Topic: and everyone gets to chime in. All the posts including the original post kicking the topic off the mailing list would see. I don't see how anyone not subscribing to The Reflector alone and never joins the forum can start a New Topic.
Honestly I think we could even do that, start a new topic if we buy the APP (2.99) or use our phone browser (free). I have done it on my iPhone before in a pinch.

Currently, the only thing that his forum does not do is post to the email list. If you're a user on Brett's forum, a post created there will only be seen on that forum. But, if Brett enables it, posts on his forum can also be sent to the email list. If he were to enable this, those of us who prefer the forum can use it and see both forum posts as well as those who post via email to the reflector list. Those who prefer the email list can continue and see emails from other email list users as well as forum posts.
