REFLECTOR: Was Brakes -> Now Forum

Again, it could be set up so that the email particpants got all of the
messages posted on the forum. The only real technical challege I would
have is dealing with the emails from the Reflector from users of the
"digest" version, since the subject line doesn't indicate what thread
they're replying to (because it summarizes a week's worth of messsages).

  Hi Patrick,
Brett's site is great, but does not function as a forum should. The
Reflector is where the meat of the discussion takes place and the data
parsed and distributed. We would be defeating the purpose of data
dissemination by commenting on a thread on the Velocity XL site as the
mailing list would not see those comments.
Folks it would be in everyone's interest, and frankly flight safety to
merge the functions of Brett's Velocity XL site and The Reflector into one
forum site. The Van's RV community has been a forum for years, how easy to
search years of old yet pertinent data over there.
  FLIGHT SAFETY!
We're not a chat board here small talking social issues or a
dating/pick-up list. We're helping folks build-fly-maintain aircraft.
Easy searches on topics, no matter how old the thread, should be top
priority to our community. The current mailing list format does not
facilitate this.
Since it was brought up, I suppose I'll go ahead and move some folks
cheese here declare definitively there are very few advantages, if any, to
a mailing list vs a forum. Additionally, someone may be flying their Velo
without a community-declared mandatory mod because they couldn't easily
search the database to find the data. We could could even have a 'Safety
Mods' section of the Forum.
Flight safety is suffering in our current method of data distribution.

valuable info posted up IMHO. There is a -good- reason most all other
interest groups on the web are in forum format. The only downside is the
necessity of a relatively active administrator.

personally (XL FG: orig Matcos). I can't really take action on this this
weekend so all I can do is create a file folder for this thread on my end.
OTW I have to either email search my folders or (please no) search a an
archive. In a forum format it would -always- be there for everyone for
future reference and easily found by a search.
  > I participate on multiple forums on the web for varied topics and I
fear a lot of very valuable data is lost for those of us who subscribe
here: searching a digested mailing list archive in my mind is akin to
searching microfiche vs the ease of a forum format.

search for a topic covered in the past.

interest groups on the web have abandoned mailing lists and are forum
based.
