REFLECTOR: Jeffco spec sheet

OK thanks Chris.

A couple of days ago I placed a piece of strake cut-off (inner skin + foam + outer skin) into a tub of mogas w/ethanol. When I put the lid on, within 30 sec the pressure built up in the tub. Is perhaps the foam and something in the gas combining to give off a noxious gas? And could it be the noxious gas that's the culprit in damaging the Jeffco and other components???

I have since punched 2 holes in the lid of the plastic tub and added another piece like the 1st but with Jeffco on one face. The Jeffco is face down in the mogas. I will add a 3rd piece with jeffco, but this time face up to see if it is affected differently then the one that is face down. Is my experiment not valid because I'm using a plastic tub?

Yes, it very well may be, but with the evidence we have we could flimsy as easily speculate it was a bad batch of Jeffco. I am hopping to provide data points and not judgment.

I also sent a sample if the flaked off Jeffco to Velo but they were left scratching their collective heads. We questioned prep but myself and the buddy who was helping me at the time are certain we were meticulous in are prep and application process. I don't usually make absolute statements like that either. I qualify damn near everything...see, just like this sentence. Perhaps pinholes allowed seepage. Perhaps pollen in the air that day, or dryer lint or, or, or .....

I was not flying yet (still not but may be very close). This was a few years ago. I rebuilt with just EZ-84 (I have a five gallon kit of Jeffco if anyone is interested). I put in several test strips of the EZ-84 with the mogas I have been using back then and as of two weeks ago the test strips appeared perfect. Just some data points.

I built my tanks prior to Jeffco becoming the thing to do. I used 4 coats of EZpoxy and no problems 7 years of 100 LL later. I did not check EZpoxy with mogas but I did test it with denatured alcohol which is ethyl and methyl alcohol plus acetone. A scrap in a two month soak test showed no physical changes in it's properties that I could detect.
