REFLECTOR: FG Nosewheel Shimmy

Hi Robert,
I've heard of this but can't recommend it. This product is designed primarily for semi trucks. Remember all the bead material will be in the bottom of the nosewheel as it is stationary prior to touchdown. Once the zero-to-80ish-kts-in-.25 seconds happens the wheel should come into balance quickly. That time required to get the tire spinning and the bead material distributed equally throughout the tire I believe is long enough to pull the 'trigger' on the vibration that sets off the destructive shimmy. Once the shimmy is initiated by the tire momentarily out of balance (beads at bottom of tire while stationary) it is transmitted to the gear leg itself, starting a lateral wobble that the damper can't control, (NO MATTER HOW TIGHT!) and moves into a destructive cyclic reaction between the damper and vibrating gear leg.
Makes my stomach turn to to review this....
Next parts start flying off the plane heading to your MT prop.
The clowns in Livermore CA tried to write me up for shedding my nose pant on the active runway there after one of my numerous nosewheel shimmy incidents. The good folks in Deer Valley AZ were kind enough to return the fragments of the just repaired nose pant after it let go on that landing.
Don't put any pants on your nosewheel unti you've logged quite a few shimmy-free hops.

The guy I know who owns the shop (rural central Texas: lots of tractor tire carcasses about) said nothing to me and walked it over to his vise and using a rag to prevent damage to the aluminum clamped the yoke in his vise.

In balancing the nosewheel/tire combo it was readily apparent it was grossly out of balance. Apparently an out of balance nosewheel/tire combo is the 'trigger' that starts the destructive shimmy (vibration). So my nosewheel shimmy was solved in 2 pieces: Jorge Bujanda style bumper (I made my own from a block of urethane) and a perfectly balanced nosewheel/tire assy. Once done do a high speed taxi to confirm.
