REFLECTOR: What engine hoist?

When a new one can be purchased for around $150 new, not to mention the used market...can we say ebay (?) ;-), I cant see a reason to only rent something you may have recurrent use for. Well, except, as noted, storage. Even though my folds, it still seems to be in the way at times.

As a rule, I do not wish to pull my engine but it sure is nice knowing the hoist is tucked away in a corner and available to me. With daily rental at $36.00 ($23.00 minimum...not sure for how long), it would only take a few days need to pay for a new one.

I think either of these would work fine but why not rent one. Most metropolitan areas have tool rental companies.

Reflector,

I've never installed an engine before, either in a car or plane. Are there any special requirements for the engine hoist I'm going to need to put an IO-550 on my XL? Can I just get a (relatively) inexpensive automotive hoist like this . . . ?

[Description: Torin T31002 Engine Hoist - 1 Ton] <http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B000CODPEM/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=15684181&s=automotive>

*         Lifting Range: 1inch - 78-3/4inch

*         Foldable for easy storage

*         Four wheel mobility

*         Heavy Duty

* Perfect for Smaller Engine Blocks

Or like this . . . ?

[Description: Black Bull CP8SS 2 Ton Engine Hoist] <http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B0001YIUYI/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=15684181&s=automotive>

* Lifts most standard V8 Automobile engines and transmissions

* 360 degree rotating head with 4 adjustable fingers

* Solid steel 360 degree swivel crown casters for easy mobility

* 8 ton ram longstroke jack

*         Folds for compact storage

. . . or is there something more specialized that I'm going to require. Thanks for any advice you can provide.
