REFLECTOR: Vero Beach Gear Up

I flew down the Key West. The gear was left up, switch was down (not sure
if it was put down before or after the landing), turned on master, nothing
happened, hit reset button and gear started down. No dump was needed. This
was lack of identifying no green lights on the panel. Also failure to use a
checklist.

So let's review Retract Gear procedures.

Step One: Normal GUMPS (Gas, Undercarriage, Mixture, Propeller). Now you
are at the point that the gear does not come down. Causes: Pressure
Switches High and Low are both triggered or pump failure.

Step Two: Selector still in the down position, hit the RESET button next to
the gear selector. This forces the pump to run in the down position. If
the pump starts to run, look for TWO green lights not one. If you have two
green lights land normally.

If gear does not come down go to step 3:

Step Three: Pull the gear pump breaker. (Not the control head breaker).
Open the dump valve all the way. Gear should free fall down and lock. If
you get TWO green lights, close the dump valve to help lock pressure, you
STILL put the nose gear stick in the keel. This will help prevent the nose
gear from collapsing if it doesn't go all the way over center. Proceed to
land normally.

You must always verify that after you use the selector that you get the
green indicators for your gear being down. If you are unsure, ask the
tower, if someone is in the back of the plane they can remove the panel and
look for the mains to be over-center and locked. If you do not have the air
block over the pitch stick you can feel for the mono shock to see if it is
up against the OC stop.

Any questions call the office.

It doesn't seem by the picture that the gear collapsed, I would think that
if he used the dump valve, the gear would have deployed, even if it didn't
lock and folded back up, it would be visible in the picture- does anyone
know if he has the dump valve installed?, or was he just unaware that the
gear wasn't down when landing?

Gear came down with rest button right away when I flew down there. The gear
was in working order. He didn't verify if he had the lights.
