Dennis sounds like I am on the same pace 34 hours to go to be truly free to move about the country . With the weather hear
I am sure not much more fling will be happening soon. I have had several issue since first flight . I am still working though my
biggest pain in the rear is the O2 sensors. Lead fuel is not good for them. Whish I had though of that a long time ago but it
is the bed I made for my self . I will get through it but not sure how just yet. Great job being able to stick with the project so long.
Love to hear your motor running some time . I get tons of looks and compliments on the sound of my V8 People say it really
fits the plane.

Hard to believe, but that's me on my first circuit around the patch (U77 in Utah). Started building in 1997 - I took several years off to make a living. Early Dec. I went to Sebastian to get some hands-on experience with John Abraham coaching me. I'm sure all the T & Gs got boring for him, but he stayed with me until I figured it out.
My first flight last week was essentially 6 times around the patch getting my trim system figured out. She flies smooth and straight with power to spare. No major problems with my Chevy Odd-fire V-6. Engine temps continue at or below 200 F. Oil temps went much lower this time (260 F) with the scoop for my oil cooler placed where it should be. First landing was a greaser - I'm sure a bit of luck was involved. One ss screw went thru the prop - got that fixed. False warning light on speed brake. Got that fixed. Love flying this plane. Only 34 more hours to go.

Dennis,
Congrats on your first flight! We'd love to hear more about it when you have a chance. I saw a photo of your airborne Velocity on Flightaware. Was this the inaugural liftoff?

Subject: REFLECTOR: How should my elevator trim motor perform at 80-90 KTS?
I took my first flight in N767DG last Thursday. What a thrill. All went well except for the trim. It seemed not to move the elevator much. Not sure if I held the button down long enough, so it could have been me being impatient. If you're flying, here are my questions:
1. Say you're on downwind doing 90 KTS. Approx how many inches down is the trailing edge of your elevator? (Down from the neutral position)
2. On final over the numbers, approx how many inches down is the trailing edge of your elevator?
3. In cruise (over 150 KTS) can trailing edge of your elevator withstand the load of the air enough to drop below neutral using the trim motor? If so, how much?
Here are the numbers for my elevator sitting in the hangar - inches up or down from neutral:
Max. down with trim motor = 1.75"
Max down pulling stick back all the way = 2.25"
Max up with trim motor = 1.5"
Max up pushing stick forward = 2.25"
Thanks in advance,
Dennis Martin (173 FG Elite)
