REFLECTOR: Dynon Autopilot

Thanks for all the input. Seems like for the elevator that Geoff Gerhardt
connected straight to the elevator shaft whereas others have connected to
the spring as with the trim actuator. I know Geoff isn't in the air yet so
no proof that this is a good place. Not clear the trade-offs here. Need to
think on that.

For roll, most are at the "whale tail", but Michael Watson has his on the
firewall. Michael, do have any photos? I like this idea as I am large and
the thought of doing more work in the back of the cockpit has very little
appeal for me.

David,

I've had my roll servo on the upper pilot side of the firewall for 12 years
now.
It's connected to the left aileron bell crank. Works perfectly, no heat or
binding problems.

David,
That's a great question and one that I'm hesitant to answer as I don't have
any direct experience with the AP serves and the heat. Looks like a couple
of folks have chimed in and have indicated that this works just fine. As
most of the servo technology is basically the same (just a stepper motor),
I'm speculating that Dynon would give similar performance. I do know that
some manufacturers (Trio in particular) put micro controllers in their
servos, so that might be a factor too. I'm not sure if Dynon has a Mc in
their serves, but I don't *think* they do.

Seems like a great place for them though ?

-Peter

I have this pretty bad picture taken during installation , I need to go out
and take some new pics- will send them along. Basically, just built up a
small mounting pad on top, made an aluminum bracket to mount it, and got a
second attach bracket from Velocity and set it up pretty much like the trim.
