LEE COUNTY, N.C. --

Police say one man was hurt when a small plane crashed near [LINK:

Sunday afternoon.

The victim has not been identified yet, but the [LINK:

Federal Aviation Administration late Sunday afternoon said the plane was
registered to [LINK:
http://www2.nbc17.com/topics/types/person/tags/kirk-aragon/] Kirk Aragon of
Apex.

Police say the crash was reported about 12:45 p.m. when a neighbor called
911 to say she heard a plane flying low overheard, heard a crash and saw
smoke.

The plane crashed into woods at the end of Breezewood Road about a half
mile from the jetport.

said, "I heard the plane coming over and then I heard a loud pop."

cell phone and hurried to the site of the crash where she found [LINK:

already out of the plane. "I told [LINK:
http://www2.nbc17.com/topics/types/person/tags/kirk-aragon/] him I’m on my
way just hang in there," she said.  "He was thanking me and saying he
wanted to live. I’m hoping he will be all right," she continued, "and I
think he will because his voice was strong."

The manager of the jetport, [LINK:

told NBC-17 News that the plane was a home-built experimental aircraft
called a Velocity. The plane was based at the jetport.

"There were no real signs of distress, there were no [LINK:
http://www2.nbc17.com/topics/types/holiday/tags/may-day/] May day calls
that we heard," [LINK:
http://www2.nbc17.com/topics/types/person/tags/dan-swanson/] Swanson said.

burns.
