REFLECTOR: strake installation

Dan,

I thought so. The reason I asked is due to the "problem" that popped up on mine.

In my manual under the fuel strake section instructions, it says to make your forward leading edge strake point up 2 & 7/8" (+/- 1/8") from the reference line

The section in the manual that I had from the factory, said to locate that leading edge strake point up 2" (+/- 1/8") from the reference line.

I did not notice this until I flipped to the end of the chapter to find out when I could cut off the door pieces. Then it said the correct number!

What happened was that a Standard wing fuel strake section had been put into my 173 manual by mistake.

I am sure that the aircraft would fly either way, but I'm not advanced enough in aerodynamics to know what the result of that mistake would be.

The Factory was Very helpful in getting this straightened out with me... but it is so much easier to check it first! There WAS a KPC issued for this!

If you have the old Fancy Loose Leaf style manual like I do... Make sure the numbers at the bottom of the page say "E3R-...and not ESR...

If it says E3R, then you have the correct chapter in your manual.

I checked in to the online version for the FG, and the same mistake was in there. I told the factory, but have not checked to see if it was still there.

Best,

 Kurt

Put duct tape on the top skin as you form-fit the tracks to the skin so you can
release the skin and repeat the process 2-3 times. I think I built up the width
of the tracks with two or three fittings of the top skin. Each fitting added
maybe 1/4 inch to the width of the tracks. My final tracks were at least 3/4"
wide.

to clean them up. When you're ready to apply the top skin to the baffles, fill
one of the tubes with your epoxy mixture and lay a nice thick bead on all the
tracks. The caulking tubes make it really fast and easy to get a consistent,
thick bead on the tracks.
