REFLECTOR: courtesy car

Most places out here in New Mexico don't require anything. In fact, the only courtesy car I have ever had to show my license for or sigh anything was in Grand Junction Co. I didn't mind that, they gave me a new Ford Expedition with only a couple thousand miles on it!.

We always get folks asking if we have a courtesy car here at my Airpark. Unfortunately we do not (since we all live here). Now days, the majority of our ops are by people that Do Not live at the Airpark. Having some of the cheapest fuel in the State helps that. I wouldn't mind finding out what the insurance requirements would be if we had some airport wheels here.

Just about every airport courtesy car I have used required a hearty handshake and often the purchase of some gas, but I fly in the south usually, and folks are a bit more laid back then in NY….. I can’t remember ever signing anything, although possibly a copy of my DL was taken..

I fly out of Olean airport, KOLE, in New York. At the present time, we do not have a courtesy car. The airport is owned and operated by the City of Olean. Our airport support group has offered to purchase a van and donate it to the city for use as a courtesy car. The City will pay for insurance and maintenance. Though our City Attorney was reluctant to accept because of liability, it was finally agreed to. The attorney is asking for copies of agreements between the facility and the user of the car. Unfortunately, in our area most facilities do not have written agreements so I have only been able to obtain one contract. For those of you who’s airports offer courtesy cars, what do they require? If anyone would have access to a contract and could email it to me I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
