Scott, two comments...

First, do you know why your antenna failed?  Is it repairable?  Check the
solder joints where the coax is soldered to the foil tape on the inside of
your rudder cutouts.  Check the BNC jack on the other end.  If you've got a
buddy who's a Ham radio operator, borrow his SWR meter (and his expertise
if you don't know how to use it).  Fixing the bad antenna may be your
easiest solution.

If not, you can replace it - I've done it as follows.  I used a long
aluminum 1/4 inch diameter rod (about 6 feet long), with one end sharpened
to make a really (really) long drill bit.  Chuck it into your drill, and
run a hole from the inside of the wing core in the engine area to the
inboard end of the aileron cut out.  You'll need to notch an area for the
coax on the inside of your aileron cut out, and reglass after installation.
Then cut another long hole from the opposite end of the aileron cut out to
the spot where your strobe / position lights are.  From there, you'll have
to drill a hole from the inside of the rudder cut out to the strobe wire
area inside the winglet.

I did this with pretty good accuracy by running string lines right above
the wing where I wanted the drill to go, and then keeping the long drill
bit aligned with the string.  This was on my first airplane project, which
was a Varieze, and I know the wings on my Velocity are bigger, but I still
think it can be done.  I took my time, had help, and it worked out fine for
me.

I have a bad com antenna in my left wing.

I'd like to install a new antenna to replace it. Of course I'm not going
to break into the wing skin and replace it so have to install something
in the normal accessible areas.

Any recommendations?
