I have not seen a lot about having blended Winglets but what I have heard is there is
little change in performance if any. So why would some one do this? Just for looks?
It does look cool.

Chris Esselstyn is a fellow member of EAA Chapter 18 in Milwaukee (It All Started Here). http://www.eaachapter18.org

In November of 2008 he decided to cut the winglets off his Cozy and install blended winglets. He sent some shocking pictures to our newsletter editor.

I cringe every time I look at them. It took a lot of guts to do something like this. Ya think he measured twice before he grabbed the saw?

Yes, they're both RG, Race 54 is Chris' airplane, the blended wings are newish on both. Trust me, these are the airplanes with the blended winglets.

        Hey Brett-

The one on the RR pics was orange/white, but it had the RG, external scoops and blended intersections- unless those two guys did the mod at a later point, it is not either Scott or Chris's aircraft- nice sites though!

        Alex,

There are two Cozy's with IO-540 engines fiying the blended winglets, Scott Carter (the Yellow N541SL, check out the link for a lot of details) and Chris Esselstlyn's N540EZ (the red/orange Cozy, again check out the link). I believe both feature 12" radius blends, and I know Chris indicated to Elizabeth that his speed did not increase, but they're cool. They're usuallly the top act, as they take tons of folks for rides and do some formation passes, but the air portion of the fly-in was subdued this year.

For those that did not get to attend, Rene Dugas and Darrell Kufalk have shared some really nice pictures of the fly-in, the link is below. I think everybody had a pretty good time, aside from the Glasair accident, and the weather was better than average. I hope more folks will make plans to join us next year!
