REFLECTOR: Exam required for FAA Repairman's Certificate?

There is no exam. With the appropriate paperwork and proof that you substantially built most of your airplane; you are granted the repairman's certificate for your specific airplane that you built.
The good news is you can now do all maintenance on your airplane. Of course, unless you have previous knowledge, your ability to repair the stuff you didn't build (like the engine, propellor, avionics, etc) is at your own risk.
When I built mine, the FSDO inspector signed everything at the time he did the inspection prior to first flight and filed all the paperwork for me.
He also gave me a stern warning about trying to fix stuff and then fly just because I had a piece of paper.

I don't remember exactly, but when the DAR signed off on my airplane he also signed some paperwork which I subsequently took to the FSDO to get my repairman's certificate. The visit to the FSDO was just to file the paperwork.

Subject: REFLECTOR: Exam required for FAA Repairman's Certificate?

Since test flights are finished, I made an appointment with local FSDO next week for repairman's certificate. Checking online I noted something about an exam. Perhaps this is only for A & P guys. Has anyone been "examined" with theory questions, etc. If so, where's the prep material?

Thanks in advance,

Dennis
