David, I'm not sure exactly where you are in the NW... I'm in Rochester,
Mn. (KRST), with my STD-RG. If I can help let me know.

My Velo has been ready for its first flight for a couple of weeks. I am
stuck as my insurance company wants my test pilot to have a
"Familiarization
flight" in a Velocity. My pilot, Robin Reid, has 30,000 hours in over 300
types , won the Nasa Green prize in the Pipistrel G4 last month, owned a
VarEZ, and has flown Reno and the air show circuit. Still the insurance
request is not unreasonable. However, I have only been able to find one
flying Velo in the NW, near where we live, and the schedules and weather
have so far kept my pilot out of the other plane.

If you know of a flying Velo in the NW or one in Hawaii (Robin will be in
Hawaii later this month), please let me know.

Very clever. If the heat was on unintentionally on a summer day would it
make the fiberglass soft?

 Lou,

Here's my heated pitot. I like that there's nothing sticking out to grab
me as I walk around my plane.

My standard Velo is an older model and is equipped with a VOR, ILS, and a
GPS for IFR. Unfortunately it does not have a heated pitot, which I
understand is required to have it IFR certified. I am planning on
installing a heated pitot this winter and was wondering what others have
used. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I like the thought of the heated Pitot out in the clean air. Here is how I
did mine.:
