REFLECTOR: Lava Mat

I’ve got a four into one exhaust system that is within ¾ inch of the oil pan, wrapping the exhaust keeps much of the heat inside the exhaust and off the bottom of the engine.

How does the heat wrap affect oil temp?

I tried similar products with the same results. What did work finally, was I wrapped the exhaust with a protective heat wrap I ordered from an auto performance store. Works great and dropped my oil temps about 20 degrees. I can climb out now even in the summer without red lining temps right away. I checked the exhaust at annual and no corrosion or damage from the wrap.

I tried that stuff.

1.) I put a big swath on the flat side of my oil pan right above the exhaust cross-over pipe. It fell off in about 5 hours of run time.

2.) I put some on the engine mount in a couple places where the exhaust headers were close. It fell off in about 10 hours of run time.

I cleaned the areas with alcohol before applying.

YMMV

A friend of mine used this on his Turbo Arrow. I thought I would share. It has a weave like gold carbon fiber. Made from crashed lava rocks.
