Sid is right, but, In addition:
What ever happened to THINKING. X gallons per hour, times hours flown (with a reasonable over burn cushion) means relatively few surprises. Use your other warnings to alert you to something amiss, but in the end.. THINK.

A capacitance fuel gage sensor(s) on one or both wing tanks with alarms and a readout on the panel is one option.
