Mines a 96 and it had the u joints

My 1987 plans have u-joints on the ailerons. Are you talking about two
u-joints for each aileron?

I was just hoping you'd taken some pictures as you were building that you
could share, as well as some tips about how you went about assembling it all
(did you through-bolt or rivet the u-joints?) that would help someone else,
as well as what size you used that would make it significantly easier for
someone following your advice to benefit from your experience.  That sort of
how-to would make a great Wiki entry or Central States article for folks to
use as a guide.
