The damper has a post that is centered under the gear leg. There is a
bushing that is inserted inside the end of the gear leg that engages the
post on the damper. This bushing is drilled and pinned inside the gear leg.
If you look at the pictures that John Tvedte posted, the last one shows this
bushing.
There are many ways this could be installed. The unit works by damping the
motion between the damper body and the post. Attach one part to the fork
and one part to the leg and you are good to go.
I believe Scott's plans call for the RG call for the damper to be attached
on a bracket to the front of the fork. The unit comes with an arm that can
be attached to the post. Capture the arm with a fixed pin attached to the
gear leg, and you have damping.
