REFLECTOR: Hot Start Techniques IO-550N

Bill,

Sounds good to me! And also sounds almost exactly like my original method,
but without any Boost Pump (while cranking) and without the pre-start
cooling and clearing Boost Pump use that I have traditionally used.

Do you use this method with an IO-550N?

I anxious to find out what 'range' of hot start conditions it will work
reliably 'as-is' for... About 1/4 of the time, I almost get it started,
then get into 'limbo land' (too much/too little fuel?) and get stuck
cranking too much with my (similar) originally posted method. Maybe no
Boost Pump use, period, is the answer! I've also found it touchy pulling
back the throttle once it catches -- either a little too fast, or a little
too slow. I hate punishing that poor starter!

Thanks,
Bob Jackson

Try This,

Ignore all the three-handed, stupid human tricks attempts to start. I
recently learned this from a Beech Baron/Colemill conversion hanger-mate. It
has worked on three successive hot-starts where other methods have proven
ineffective.

HOT START PROCEDURE:

NO ATTEMPTS at clearing vapor-locked engine with any fuel pump/mixture
settings or run times. Boost pump off.

All engine controls firewalled: Throttle, Prop, Mixture

BE READY ON THROTTLE TO RETARD UPON ENGINE COUGH/ATTEMPTED
START!!!

Engage starter, wait for coughing or rich-sounding attempted start -
smoothly retard throttle toward idle as engine catches.

TAXI HAPPILY AWAY!!!
