power pulses are also about spacing, the worst being a single large pulse per revolution.  You get two pulses per rev on a lycoming IO360, 3 per rev on an IO520. I've flown my airframe in front of an IO360 and an IO520 and I can vouch that the IO520 is worlds smoother

I think Brian and John are both correct.

Though I am more inclined to believe their insurance has laid down a blanket verbotten list that covers way more than is necessary.  Insurance, unscrupulous lawyers, and the wacky judicial system  we now have are threatening more business and pleasure activities than anything else.

I think it's the magnitude of the power pulses.
The four cylinders are spread out over too many degrees, resulting in positive and negative torque on the root of the blades.  The Franklin at 220HP is similar HP, but six cylinders.

I'm not aware of anyone testing the magnum on a 520.  If it had turbine type power, I'm sure it could handle a lot of power.  The problem is with the crush plate.  It has to hold on to the blades with friction.  Once they start to pivot in the crush plate, they heat up and lose their integrity.

I think if IVO were to machine a collar to hold the blades it would work fine, but it would sure increase his manufacturing cost.  The design he has now is simple and lightweight, and proven (to not work on high power 4-bangers).

That's very unfortunate.  I think it would have worked great with your engine.  I've ridden in a cessna with a IO520 and the vibration seemed comparable to my Franklin.  My guess is that their insurance is forcing the restriction.
