Thats not right Fred.  Your engine should run fine on the mechanical 
pump at any RPM. You should find out why.

> With my IO550, the procedure is to prime with the pump at high speed, then start at the low speed setting.  On approach always turn the pump on low.  On landing the speed will keep the engine turning over but as you slow down it will quit without the pump on low.  With the pump on it will idle quite smoothly at 800 RPM.
