REFLECTOR: Fw: [c-a] Velocity Approach at RR on Saturday Night

All is well.  The aircraft in question was Bill Mulrooney (sp?) who was
coming in late from Michigan.  I talked to there Bill's friend Paul on
Sunday morning.  He told me that Bill had the field in sight from 6 miles
out and went around on the first attempt.  On the second attempt the
leading winds of the squall made the second go around a necessity.  On the
third pass the squall that we experienced on the ground was in full blow,
so they pulled up and called ATC (why they didn't respond to the call from
ground?) and were directed to Elizabeth town, where they landed just fine.
Bill and company were shuttled back to RR Saturday night.  Sunday morning
Alex (last name ??) shuttled Bill back to E'town to pick up the Velo.  Bill
was on final over my head as we left (driving) about 2:00 Sunday.

Anyone hear any more about the Velocity that was trying to land at RR
Saturday night? A few of us were watching him make a few missed approaches
due to the rain and wind that seemed to pick up suddenly (a couple we spoke
to said he made four). However, he finally climbed up and we saw him appear
to enter the clouds circling overhead. We heard someone calling the
aircraft from the ground on the radio, but no response from the pilot
trying to land. Eventually we heard the plane fade into the distance, but
we continued to scan the radio for a while (including 121.5) but never
heard anything. I'm sure they're ok, but we were sure concerned at the
time.

Thanks again to all who helped make RR a success this year. Smaller crowd
this year due to the weather, but still awesome nonetheless! !
