I have been using thin formica (countertop est. .060") as a heat shield. It's light, strong, and resists heat transmission. Have never had leg heat issue.

My kit is a 2002 and it came with phonelic shields http://phenolic-sheets-rods-tubes.com/.
Basically a heat shield that you place between the brake disk and the gear leg. If I didn't have that, I
would have probably made a heat shield out of 1/4" aluminum or something
similar. You really just need something to block the radiant heat from the brake disk.
So anything that shields the leg.
I am not flying yet, so my comments are anecdotal. I would think you could also
wrap the leg with some insulating material and then with aluminum tape or something
similar (kinda ugly though)

I guess I should have made two threads from the beginning. I have now split out the brake line thread from the brake heat shield thread. Does the factory include a shield in the current kits? Or do they supply instructions on how to make some?

What is the best way to add some protection to the main gear legs to prevent overheating from the brake disks after heavy usage? My plane has nothing, no shield, no wrap, and no AL tape. I've read about the problems that overheating the gear leg can cause and I don't want to have to go there.
Thanks
