Laurence is correct.  10k resistance is way too high when working with a 
high-current device like your trim motor.  You could experiment with a 
rectifier or two inline with the motor load. Each rectifier you use 
would provide about .7v of drop.  Make sure to use a rectifier that is 
rated well above the max current the motor will draw.
