Is this a symptom of the nose gas strut going soft?

The gas strut has nothing to do with the retraftion/extenshion of the gear
(in normal operation). It's only purpose is in the use of
"manual/emergency" extension. It is needed in the manual extension to push and keep the
linkage over center. In normal operation, the hydraulic cylinder does all
the work and keeps the linkage overcenter (in essence, the gas strut doesn't
need to be there for normal operation). As stated, if the linkage is
overcenter to the stop, then the switch needs to be adjusted as things will
settle.

Don't forget to check now and then in flight that the gear will extend and
lock using the manual process.
