John,
Part of the instructions for using contact cleaner is to rotate the switch to wipe the cleaner across the contacts. No, you will not blow yourself up.

Subject: REFLECTOR: CHT selector switch
My CHT readout continues to degrade. Sometimes it works fine, other times it fluctuates or goes to zero. I have a selector switch and read just one CHT at a time. The problem is the same for all CHTs so the problem is somewhere between the switch and the readout. My switch is located in the overhead duct and is not removeable or too accessable. I want to try spraying contact cleaner on the switch to see if that helps. Would spraying a lot of cleaner inside the duct cause any problems? I assume I need to wait quite a while before turning anything on to avoid the possibility of a spark igniting the cleaner before it has evaporated and dissapated. Can the voltage from the thermocouple cause a spark if I turn the selector switch?
John
