REFLECTOR: Franklin carb heat

John,

The photo of your carb heat box doesn't look anything like the factory version.  The factory version that is supplied with the Franklin engine install kit has the shaft at the very top of the upper, not the lower, half of the carb heat box.  The shaft is supported by a washer on each side of the box that are molded into the box and covered with bi-ax.  I have included two views to help you visualize what it looks like. There is a side view that shows the location of the shaft and operating lever in the heat off position.  The flap is horizontal and flat against the upper surface of the heat box, closing the heat opening attached to the scat hose.  The second picture is looking into the cold air entrance of the heat box with the screen removed.  The flap is in the heat on position.  This is built according to the factory instructions and works well and is trouble free.

If you wish to start over instead of trying to salvage what you now have, you can order a Franklin carb heat box kit from the factory.
