Attached are pictures of my nose gear without gussets that cracked the ears off and spun the nose gear 180 degrees pulling the gear bushing out of the keel.

Dennis,

Thanks for sharing your experience with the crack in the nose gear cross-bar.  I am building an XLFG -5 and so your comments are relevant to me. I am very early in the building game but  would like to purchase the substitute shock absorber.   Do you know the exact part number from Advanced Antivibration Components?

Just wondering if any fixed gear pilots have had a problem with the cross bar at the top of the gear strut. I talked with Scott Swing yesterday - he has observed only one example with the cross bar showing a "crack." Since I've already got my strut removed to add the new rubber shock absorber, I'll probably go ahead and add the gussets. If anyone wants to see a photo, Jorge Bujanda has the mod on his web site.

Click on number 4 to see the mod with gussets. Great welding job!
