REFLECTOR: Deltahawk

My last conversation (early April) with Doug (Doers)......
They believe that they have the right piston/ring combination, but when they changed from the R&D manufacturer (for the rings) to the regular supplier and started the endurance testing, they had excessive wear. They believe that it was a manufacturing error and were planning on starting the final endurance program using the R&D supplier rings (right after SUn 'n fun). The hope is that the testing will be done around OSH time. If there are no problems revealed, they hope to begin delivering engines (160 & 180 hp) by September. 200 hp will follow a few months after (they are looking for a new turbo for that model).

There is a firewall aft package for the Velocity, which is pretty neat. Everything comes mounted already to the engine mount, including all accessories as well as the Oil cooler and radiators (1 for intercooler). All that is necessary is the fuel plumbing on the forward side of the FW with the addition of an accessory fuel pump (recommended for starting with air in lines). All you need to do is bolt the mount to the FW, connect the fuel lines (feed and return), connect the throttle, power and turn the key (or press the button). Cowl is going to be included, but will require some work to mate it to a particular aircraft.

Certification is progressing well. They expect that to be received in early spring 2010.

That's what I know!

Larry

If anyone spoke with them @ Sun 'n Fun, they might have more up to date info, otherwise, I will get updates at OSH.

Larry,

Can you give an update on
DeltaHawk? The home page has news on it from December 2008, but that’s about
Exxon not wanting their Jet Fuel used in Diesels. The latest news in their Activities
section is from September 2008.

Are they delivering engines?

Pretty sure that is an old video
of the 1st flight of the (Gen 3?) engine about 5 years ago. The engine is
definitely not the current version (all coolant lines are now integral to the
case) and I think they are installing the inverted engine currently.

Looks like it was put up a few weeks ago.
