REFLECTOR: Avionics: Blue Mountain

In fairness to BM, Greg left the following reply on his website this
morning

"Larry has been gone for well over a year, so that's not exactly news.
He came back to help with phone support for a few months and we
discontinued that as it's not practical to do support remotely.

the development of our software is essentially complete except for
feature upgrades and bug fixes, so Ross is in Oak Ridge. The company was
me and one or two people for the better parts of six years, and now it
is again. Business is slow for us as it is in the entire industry, so it
makes sense to me to slim down and ride this out.

Which is what we're doing. I've been busy loading software and setting
up the dev environment, and bring other programmers on board so I have
more help when I need it.

Overall, we're doing what General Electric is doing. Not what General
Motors is doing. :-)

Call if you need, or email support at bluemountainavionics.com. I've been
emailing and answering tech calls every day, so I know we're still
bouncing along, doing what we do and working on the next Gen.

-Greg"

However, when I tried to email, I got and error message that the email
address was in error

I called BM and Sheila answered (first time in two weeks), but no one
was available to answer tech questions. She took my phone number
(which I left on messages on all three of their voicemail boxes the last
two weeks and no one ever called back).

Unfortunately for all of us, the cold hard reality is that anytime we
buy products/kits/whatever from non-traditional companies, we are at
risk of being left with orphaned products.

I have sent off an e-mail to the guys at Aero-news.net to see if they
know anything about this- on the one hand, I would say "good riddance to
Blue Mountain " except that I am stuck with their day VFR only (in my
opinion) G3 unit- maybe I will still be able to use it for a wheel
chock, not sure- but I have only myself to blame- thought I had made a
well educated decision to buy them, didn't figure the Snake Oil selling
capabilities of Greg Richter into my calculations though- now with 20/20
hindsight, should have gone with Grand Rapids- oh well.

I have been dealing with BMA since January trying to get my efis (gold
box) fixed. I,ve shipped it back four times. Cost so far $800+. Fixed it
myself (gnd on dimmer switch). Cost less than $20. You can only get
sheila early in the morning but not every day. Tami is the only one who
answers the phone. She also repairs the CPU, etc. Greg is never there
does not answer E-mails or home phone number. If they are not at OSH
this year they will probably go belly up. Just my opinion.

Has anyone had any recent contact with Greg or anyone else at BMA?
Their two main folks have apparently left leaving Greg and Sylvia (?).
Anyone at the factory know if they have gone under? BMA has not been
answering their phones or returning calls.
