aircraft. He had a successful test flight and then was going up to burn off
5 hours so he could carry passengers. A friend of his was in contact with
him by handheld for about the first 30 mins of flight in the area of the
airport. Afterwards there was no contact.

After 4.5 hrs, which was the presumed endurance of the plane, the
authorities were called. The plane was found with the assistance of AT&T
pinging the pilots cell phone for location. The witness who found the plane
had time in canards, and indicated that the plane crashed tail-first.

Thats what I can gather so far.
