Top right is correct. Not bottom as that will decrease the incedence

Doug,

If your plane tends to roll right as you have indicated, adding a shim at
the top right wing bolt will reduce the angle of attack of the right wing
and increase the roll to the right. That puts you back where you started.
Right wing bottom bolt shim is where you want to go. I would like to point
out that if you're that close solo, you're probably bang on for two souls.

I removed the large area washer shim from the top outboard wing bolt, but
I've still got a slight drift to the right when flying hands-free. It's not
much; my hand just needs to rest against the stick to get it to fly
straight. As luck would have it, removing the shim actually helped my cowl
to fit better on that side.

So now I guess the next step would be to add a shim on the right outboard
top wing bolt hole. But the cowl fits perfectly now, and I'd like to keep it
that way.

I've got an EZ-Pilot for aileron trim. If I shim the wings to fly straight
and level flying solo, will I still need to trim with a passenger on the
right side?

I'm pretty pleased with N2980W's performance so far: 165 kts true at 6000
feet turning 2550 RPMs with ECI's parallel valve IOX-360, a fixed pitch
2-blade prop, and no wheel pants.
